Minister Reilly refuses to protect vulnerable patients from
abuse of their Rights:
After
I had lodged a formal complaint with Minister Reilly and after he had
investigated and after he had responded that he was completely satisfied with
the Medical Council's conduct, Dail Questions were asked on my behalf, one of
which was -
"Is
the Minister aware of the misrepresentation of Mr Trent's case during a Medical
Council investigation, the result of which the Minister stood over despite the
documented evidence provided by the patient to the Council?"
The
Minister responded by claiming that he was precluded by law from becoming
involved or doing anything regarding the Medical Council. The Minister
indicated that he had already responded to my complaint to him.
Clearly,
and given his investigation of my formal complaint, his response that he is
precluded is known to be incorrect.
Minister
Reilly was fully aware that the law and relevant Act gave him full authority to
intervene, hence his investigation.
No
matter what, as the Minister for Health he would have a duty to ensure, on
behalf of the people, that a statutory body acts in a legal manner when
carrying out their duties and not break the law to protect a negligent doctor.
